Many California residents will be paying more for electricity soon, with a nearly 9% rate hike taking effect. This is on top of a previous increase of 8-9% in January. The utility says it is just passing through the costs from those suppliers, with no markups, to its customers but that the bills could go up yet again in the near future. They are looking to raise $10.5 billion to bury 3,600 miles of power lines, which would represent a rate increase of about $30 a month.
